"2027 Prediction: Tinubu Remains Unbeatable if All Presidential Tickets Are Assigned to the South - Dele Momodu"
Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has expressed his opposition to the concept of presidential zoning and voiced concerns about the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) ability to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
During an interview on 'Sunrise Daily', a program on Channels Television on Monday, Momodu considered presidential zoning as a tool of blackmail designed to weaken opposition parties. He asserted that there is nothing in the Nigerian Constitution that stops a Northerner or Southerner from contesting the presidency.
Momodu lamented that the PDP has been hijacked by agents of the APC and stated that he left the party due to disagreements with the party's leadership and direction. He expressed his belief that the PDP would fail to rescue itself from the clutches of the ruling party.
The so-called sentiment about presidential zoning, according to Momodu, is a result and reward of blackmail from some people who want to deliberately keep all other parties down. He advised political parties against zoning their presidential ticket to the South for the 2027 election, stating that nobody will be able to defeat President Bola Tinubu if all political parties zone their presidential ticket to the South.
However, Momodu did not mention the 2027 election or presidential zoning in his latest statement. It is possible that the statement about the PDP being unable to rescue itself from the clutches of the ruling party implies a lack of confidence in Tinubu's leadership.
