In an incident that unfolded on August 31, 2025, at Magdeburg Central Station, a 35-year-old man of Polish origin was arrested by the Federal Police Inspectorate Magdeburg for an attempted theft and subsequent acts of violence.

The drama began at 17:52 when the Federal Police Inspectorate Magdeburg received a report about the suspect attempting to steal several cans and bottles of drinks from a retail outlet without paying. Before the officers arrived, the suspect reportedly pushed a nearby witness and punched him in the face.

An employee of the store bravely intervened, asking the suspect to open his backpack and hand over the stolen goods. The suspect complied only after being threatened with a call to the police.

Upon the arrival of the officers, the suspect was taken into custody. A breathalyzer test conducted at the offices showed a reading of 2.26% BAC for the suspect.

The individual responsible for the Federal Police Inspectorate Magdeburg before the incident was Klaus Henning Thomas, who had assumed leadership in May 2025.

Criminal charges were filed against the suspect for petty larceny, bodily harm, and insult. The suspect was also banned from the affected retail outlet.
