A graduate from the Diocese of Osnabrück embarks on an exploration of Estonia, using her "northern expedition" as a practice.

In the spirit of broadening horizons and making a positive impact, Jule Marie Griep-Raming, an Abiturient from Aschendorf, is embarking on a unique journey. On August 20th, she will travel to Tartu, Estonia, to participate in the "Praktikum im Norden" program.

This collaborative effort between the Bonifatiuswerk and the Newman Institute in Uppsala, Sweden, offers young people the opportunity to learn about diaspora life and faith. For Jule Marie, this program holds a special appeal, as she is eager to immerse herself in a new cultural environment.

During her tenure from September 2025 to July 2026, Jule Marie will be working at a Catholic education center in Tartu. The center, which includes a kindergarten, a primary school, a comprehensive school, a cultural house, and a sports club, serves a community where only 0.5% of the total population is Catholic.

Monsignore Georg Austen, the General Secretary of the Bonifatiuswerk, appreciates the commitment of young volunteers like Jule Marie. He states that their initiative and dedication significantly contribute to the church and society. He believes that it is enriching for both when young people embark on their journeys and share their perspectives.

Jule Marie herself hopes that this experience will provide a new perspective and help her grow. She will be contributing to the education sector, providing German lessons at the Catholic school and supporting educators in the kindergarten.

The "Praktikum im Norden" program has been growing steadily since its inception in 2011. Each year, more than 20 young people from Germany embark on social engagements in Northern Europe and the Baltic countries through this program. To date, over 250 young people have completed the voluntary service in this program, not limited to just one diocese; it attracts young people from various parts of Germany.

Last year, the program received recognition as an "International Youth Voluntary Service" from the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women, and Youth. This acknowledgement underscores the program's commitment to fostering cross-cultural understanding and promoting social engagement among young people.

As Jule Marie sets off on her journey, she carries with her the blessings and appreciation of the Bonifatiuswerk and the hope that her experience in Estonia will be enriching for both her personal growth and the community she will serve.
