A new center focused on climate resilience and sustainability is being established in Dresden.

In a significant move towards sustainable research and networking, the Technical University of Dresden (TUD) and the United Nations University (UNU) have announced the establishment of the UNU-Hub Climate Resilience and Sustainable Technology (CREST). The announcement was made during the Dresden Nexus Conference 2025, a forum that has been instrumental in promoting sustainable research networking.

The Dresden Nexus Conference 2025, held from April 8 to 10, 2025, attracted participants from over 75 countries. The event was notable for its focus on discussing innovative concepts for sustainable resource use and promoting research in this area like no other.

Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala, Rector of the United Nations University, reaffirmed the UNU's commitment to expand partnerships and turn knowledge into action. Prof. Ursula Staudinger, TUD Rector, expressed her pleasure at taking this important step during the conference and emphasised that the founding of the hub in Dresden strengthens international cooperation to develop solutions for human-induced climate change and the increasing scarcity of natural resources, especially water.

The CREST hub will actively cooperate with political decision-makers, companies, and communities. It will be located in Dresden, Germany, and will promote innovative learning programs for resource efficiency and climate protection in an international context. Interdisciplinary research at the CREST hub will focus on promoting climate-resistant infrastructures, adaptive water management, and circular technologies.

Under the leadership of Prof. JΓΌrgen Stamm and Dr. AndrΓ© Lindner, CREST will develop forward-looking solutions to improve global living conditions. The United Nations has chosen TUD as a partner for the CREST hub, indicating confidence in TUD's expertise in the field of climate resilience and sustainable environmental technologies.

Future engineers and political decision-makers will be trained at the CREST hub. The goal of the CREST hub is to create a strong international network that collectively addresses the challenges of climate change. Prof. Staudinger stated that CREST will serve as a hub for interdisciplinary exchange between continents.

Prof. Stamm's involvement in the leadership of the newly founded CREST-Hub at TU Dresden and the United Nations University is confirmed, but detailed personal or professional background information about him could not be found in the search results.

The establishment of CREST at the Dresden Nexus Conference 2025 marks a significant step forward in the advancement of sustainable research and networking. The new center is set to play a crucial role in addressing the global challenges of climate change and resource scarcity.
