A significant move towards expanded inclusivity and active involvement

In the picturesque town of Landshut, a new role has been introduced to aid families with children and adolescents who have physical, intellectual, or mental disabilities. Janine Brabender, a seasoned professional in the field of children and youth welfare, has taken on the role of the Landshut process mentor.

Janine began her work in Landshut in May of 2023, bringing her extensive knowledge from her six-year stint in the general social service of the youth welfare office. Her office hours are Monday to Wednesday from 8 am to 12 pm and 2 pm to 4 pm, and Thursday and Friday from 8 am to 12 pm.

Consultations with Janine are free and confidential, and she is available to assist both families and individuals. The support she provides can take place at the town hall, in various institutions, as home visits, online, or by phone. No diagnosed disability is a prerequisite for seeking help from Janine.

The Landshut process mentor's role is to design consultation offers in a comprehensible, perceivable, and understandable form. She discusses the prerequisites for support services together, explains the procedural processes, helps with the application and utilization of services, and can act as a trusted intermediary if necessary.

Janine supports potential claims for benefits in the area of integration assistance and guides those affected through the application process. She also provides support in early support, aids, stationary or ambulatory assistance, such as school accompaniment or leisure assistance.

The Children and Youth Strengthening Act (KJSG), effective since June 2021, legally reinforces an inclusive approach in children and youth welfare. The Landshut process mentor currently supports around ten families with the most diverse requirements, ranging from telephone short consultations to home visits.

She emphasizes that everyone, regardless of their understanding of the process, should be able to understand what the service is about.

The city of Kirchheim am Neckar also employs a process mentor for children and adolescents with disabilities. Janine Brabender, originally from Kirchheim, began her work as a process mentor there in 2023.

In both cities, the process mentor is a trusted and contact person for many families, offering invaluable support and guidance in navigating the complex world of children and youth welfare services.
