A vineyard's focus on enhancing fiber content

The Karlsruhe district is set to witness a significant enhancement in its digital infrastructure, as Minister of Interior and Digitalization, Thomas Strobl, has announced funding worth over twelve million euros for the expansion of fiber optic networks. This move is part of a larger initiative to achieve comprehensive fiber optic coverage across the district.

Since 2014, the Karlsruhe region has been relying on a combination of state and federal funding, as well as expansion by private network operators. The latest funding will continue this trend, with the exact private operator for the large-scale expansion in Waghäusel yet to be named. However, it is clear that this expansion involves cooperation between state funding and private companies. Deutsche Glasfaser, a private network operator, is supplementing the funded expansion with a large-scale, private-sector expansion in Waghaeusel.

The expansion is not limited to Waghäusel. In Weingarten (Baden), 181 new connections will be created, including a school, 32 commercial enterprises, and six public buildings. The municipality will receive funding of 556,672 euros for this project. Similarly, the city of Waghaeusel will receive around 4.3 million euros for a new funding project, which will create 1,344 connections, including a school, 173 commercial enterprises, and 30 public buildings.

The fiber optic network expansion in the district of Karlsruhe is seen as an invitation to the future. With over 120,000 fiber optic connections expected to be available throughout the district by 2028, the region will be well-equipped for settling, education, medical consultations via video, global markets from the home office, and increased security through modern communication technologies.

Minister Thomas Strobl, District Administrator Dr. Christoph Schnaudigel, and Mayor Thomas Deuschle have officially put a section of the municipal fiber optic network into operation in Waghaeusel, marking a significant step forward in the district's digital transformation. This expansion is a testament to the commitment of the government and private sector in ensuring that the Karlsruhe district remains at the forefront of broadband expansion in Germany.
