Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Criticizes Husband's Attendance at Official Meetings of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta as Unconstitutional
In a surprising turn of events, Manish Gupta, the husband of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, attended a review meeting chaired by her on Saturday at Jan Seva Sadan in Shalimar Bagh constituency. The same images from the meeting were shared on Manish Gupta's Twitter account and later on CM Rekha Gupta's Instagram account.
The Aam Aadmi Party's Saurabh Bharadwaj compared the situation to a fictional village in the web series Panchayat's Phulera Panchayat, where the husband of a woman sarpanch informally exercises authority. The controversy surrounds Manish Gupta's presence at official government meetings, as he does not hold an official party position in the Shalimar Bagh seat.
The meeting was regarding the ongoing development works in the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency. It included representatives from the Shalimar Bagh seat and BJP party activists. The choices made during the meeting included removing skewed trees, starting market revitalisation, and establishing harvesting stations in waterlogging-prone locations. Officials were directed to regularly assess the progress of ongoing works and submit detailed status reports within a stipulated time frame.
The CM's office defended the meeting as part of development work review, prioritising the timely completion of public interest works and their continuous review. However, the AAP has accused the BJP of hypocrisy, as they have long criticized the Congress for encouraging dynasty politics. No response was given by Gupta's office to the AAP's accusations of nepotism.
The controversy raises concerns about nepotism and governance ethics. It is important to ensure that decisions are made based on merit and not personal relationships. The choices made during the meeting will have a significant impact on the constituency and its residents, and it is crucial that these decisions are made in a transparent and fair manner.
As of now, no response has been given by the CM's office to the allegations of nepotism. The situation is being closely watched by political observers and the public alike, and it remains to be seen how it will unfold in the days to come.
