Abensberg Judo Club advances to the finals of the Federal Judo League
In an exciting turn of events in the Bundesliga Judo final tournament, Abensberg and TSG Backnang faced off in the semi-finals. The match was a closely contested one, with both teams showcasing their judo skills and determination.
Abensberg, currently leading the Bundesliga South division, fielded international top players in the lower weight classes. Jaba Papinashvili and Temur Nozadze scored points for Abensberg in the up to 60 kg and 66 kg categories, respectively. Timo Cavelius also added to their tally in the up to 90 kg category.
The Abensberg athlete of the year, Kevin Abeltshauser, had an impressive start against Levi Märkt. He took the lead with a throw, which he successfully defended. However, the match was not without its twists and turns. Abeltshauser's opponent, who defeated him in the final of the German individual championship last year, put up a strong fight.
On the other side of the ring, TSG Backnang was determined to avenge last year's loss to Remscheider TV. The team, currently third in the Bundesliga South division, had a strong showing, with David Kraemer competing in a Bundesliga match after a long time. Levi Märkt, who was defeated by David Kraemer in a throw and hold-down, respectively, could not prevent the victory from being safe for TSG Backnang in the end.
Coach Radu Ivan expressed his satisfaction after the match, while Martin Oberndorfer, department leader of TSG Backnang, expressed his goal of knocking Abensberg out of the final tournament. TSG Backnang will now meet Remscheider TV in the semifinals, who surprisingly finished second in the North division.
The match between Abensberg and TSG Backnang was filled with interesting fights, showcasing the high level of judo in the Bundesliga. The winner of this semi-final match will advance to the final, where they will face the winner of the other semi-final between Düsseldorfer Judo- und Taekwondo-Verein and ASV Partenkirchen. The final tournament promises to be an exciting event, with both teams aiming to take home the title.
