Online Ticket System Introduced at Kehl's Public Pool
Kehl, Germany, has implemented a new online ticket system for its public outdoor swimming pool, effective from August 2025. The measure aims to manage visitor numbers efficiently and avoid overcrowding at the pool due to high demand or capacity limits [1].
The system, however, presents challenges for some visitors. As many as 20-25 percent of visitors have not purchased admission tickets online before arriving at the pool in the Auenheim district, leading to inconvenience and potential frustration [1].
Many visitors are surprised by this new requirement and complete the registration process at the entrance. However, some visitors do not have tickets for the pool, causing delays and potential entry issues [1][2].
Raphael Schneider, a visitor from SΓ©lestat, finds the online procedure an obstacle for customers. Schneider had bought an online ticket at home, but it didn't work at the entrance, requiring him to order a new one [2]. A Kehler visitor complains about not having a credit card, implying it's a problem with the online system [2].
The city administration has issued a document stating that excluding certain groups of people is not appropriate in the current situation. The pool offers exceptions to the online purchase rule for seniors, people with disabilities, and groups [1].
The new security concept for the city of Kehl was implemented in response to incidents that required police intervention. The city welcomes foreign visitors to the pool, with French visitors making up about 70 percent of guests, particularly in the afternoon [1]. However, nine young people from a neighbouring country were banned after a scuffle at the pool exit in mid-June [1].
Some visitors are unable to swim due to temperatures over 30 degrees. Despite these challenges, the city of Kehl continues to prioritise the safety and comfort of its visitors [1].
