Accident during intense rainfall leaves driver deceased and wife substantially injured
A tragic pickup truck accident occurred in Muang district, Nakhon Phanom, on Monday morning. The incident took place at Ban Kham Thao, a sharp bend in the road, during heavy rain.
The driver of the pickup, identified as Mr. Chaloemphon from Phuket, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to run off the road and crash head-on into a power pole. The vehicle involved in the accident was a bronze Ford Ranger.
Unfortunately, Mr. Chaloemphon was killed in the accident. His wife, a Lao national, was seriously injured. The woman's name is not provided in the available information. The couple was on their way to Tha Uthen district to buy fresh and dried food at the Thai-Lao wholesale market for resale.
The power pole was leaning dangerously over the pickup truck, and rescue crews had to use hydraulic cutters to free the trapped driver's body, a process that took nearly two hours. The injured wife was rushed to Nakhon Phanom Hospital for treatment.
The road surface was slippery at the time of the accident, which may have contributed to the driver's loss of control. The police investigation into the accident is ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time. We hope for a speedy recovery for the injured wife.
