Accident on Bundesautobahn 3 near Frankfurt causes temporary road closure
Last night, a traffic accident occurred on the A3 motorway near Frankfurt, involving five vehicles and resulting in two slight injuries.
The incident took place around 22:15 on the A3 motorway towards Würzburg. A 20-year-old driver of a Corvette, who was reportedly driving at high speed, lost control of his vehicle and hit the right crash barrier. After bouncing off the barrier, the Corvette spun back onto the road and hit the rear of a passing VW, causing slight injuries to the 50-year-old driver.
Following the accident, police officers temporarily closed the A3 motorway due to the debris and some vehicles not being roadworthy. The bridge was inspected by experts and there was never any risk to its integrity; however, a nearby bridge did sustain slight damage from debris from the accident.
Three other passing vehicles were also damaged by debris from the incident. The lane on the A3 motorway was reopened after a few minutes.
The accident is currently under investigation. Rocco Stein, Director of the Frankfurt Federal Police Inspectorate, spoke about cooperation between local, state, and federal police in handling the incident.
