In the world of Hollywood, few lives have been as turbulent and captivating as that of Charlie Sheen. Born Carlos Irwin Estevez in New York City on September 3, 1965, to actor Martin Sheen (then known as RamΓ³n Antonio Gerardo Estevez), Charlie Sheen embarked on a journey that would see him rise to fame, face numerous challenges, and eventually conquer his demons.

Sheen's father, Martin, adopted the stage name Martin Sheen after a Catholic bishop, and Charlie followed suit, taking on the name Charlie Sheen. He began acting as a teenager and found early success in Hollywood, securing the lead role in the Vietnam drama "Platoon" by Oliver Stone, directed by the man who would be instrumental in his breakthrough.

"Platoon" catapulted Sheen to new heights, and he continued to impress with his performance in films like "Wall Street" alongside Michael Douglas and his father Martin Sheen. His portrayal of Bud Fox is considered by many to be his strongest role.

Sheen transitioned to television, becoming a major TV star. He became the world's highest-paid TV actor, earning up to $1.8 million per episode in sitcoms like "Spin City" and "Two and a Half Men." However, after a public feud with producer Chuck Lorre, Sheen lost his leading role in "Two and a Half Men."

Throughout his career, Sheen often played characters reminiscent of his real life: charming, womanizing alcoholics named Charlie. This persona led to numerous scandals, including a failed engagement to a porn star in Hawaii and losing custody of his twins Bob and Max with Brooke Mueller after their divorce.

Sheen has been married multiple times, including to actress Denise Richards. Despite these challenges, he managed to recapture past success with the series "Anger Management."

In 2015, Sheen revealed that he had been HIV-positive for several years, leading to a sharp increase in internet searches for information about HIV, proper condom use, and HIV tests. Since then, Sheen appears to have conquered his demons, having been sober since 2017 and having given up drugs. His father, Martin Sheen, commented on this, calling his recovery and life a "miracle."

A major TV documentary about Charlie Sheen's life, titled "aka Charlie Sheen," will air on Netflix in September. The documentary, which chronicles the life of the man who embodied "sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll" like no other, promises to delve into the highs and lows of Sheen's life, offering a fascinating glimpse into the life of one of Hollywood's most enigmatic figures.
