Actor Amir El-Masry of British-Egyptian origin geared up to create a stir at film festivals worldwide
Amir El-Masry, the talented Egyptian actor, is set to captivate audiences with his upcoming roles in multiple films and an international project.
El-Masry's latest venture, "100 Nights of Hero", directed by Julia Jackman, will debut at the prestigious Venice Film Festival on September 6 and close the London Film Festival in early October. The ensemble cast includes Emma Corrin, Maika Monroe, Nicholas Galitzine, Felicity Jones, Charli XCX, and Richard E. Grant. Based on Isabel Greenberg's graphic novel, which is an adaptation of the Middle Eastern folk-tale collection "One Thousand and One Nights", the film promises an enchanting journey.
In the film, El-Masry plays Jerome, a character who sets a wager to be away for 100 nights. His performance in "100 Nights of Hero" follows his acclaimed role in the 2020 comedy-drama "Limbo", where he portrayed a Syrian musician hoping to settle in the UK.
El-Masry also appears in "Giant", a biographical sports drama directed by British-Indian filmmaker Rowan Athale. The film tells the true story of legendary British-Yemeni boxer Naseem Hamed, with Pierce Brosnan playing El-Masry's trainer. The training for "Giant" included 12-hour-day sessions, strict dietary plans, and intensive movement coaching. El-Masry underwent months of physical and emotional training for the lead role.
"Giant" screens at the London Film Festival the day before "100 Nights of Hero". El-Masry describes "Giant" as a human story, more like "Billy Elliot" than "Creed". He was particularly impressed by Brosnan's professionalism and dedication to the role.
Apart from his film roles, El-Masry is promoting "The Stories", an international film by Egyptian-Austrian director Abu Bakr Shawky. Although the name of the French producer of the film is not explicitly mentioned, it is known that the film has French, Austrian, Belgian, and Egyptian producers.
El-Masry is also reprising his role in the comedy "Faithless". Known for being careful about Arab representation in the scripts he chooses, El-Masry always goes towards the truth in his career choices.
With his upcoming roles and dedication to authentic representation, Amir El-Masry is set to continue making a significant impact in the film industry.
