Actor from "Dahoam is Dahoam" ride through Munich, emulates regal air during Wiesn visit
The much-anticipated Bavarian State Exhibition is set to open its doors on September 14, with a special focus on King Ludwig I and Queen Therese of Bavaria. Holger Matthias Wilhelm, best known for his role in the BR TV series "Dahoam is Dahoam," will portray King Ludwig I, while actress Christine Elsa Wagner will take on the role of Queen Therese.
The exhibition, held at the House of Bavarian History, is a significant event in the city's calendar, and this year's focus on the royal couple is a nod to the parade's historical roots. The Trachten and Shooting Parade, first held in 1835 to celebrate the silver wedding anniversary of King Ludwig I and Queen Therese, is a significant event in Munich, connected to the royal couple and the Oktoberfest.
The parade route covers approximately 7 kilometers through Munich's city center, starting at the Max II. Monument and ending at the Oktoberfest. The Grainet brass band from the Freyung district in the Bavarian Forest will provide musical accompaniment for the state exhibition and the parade. Composed of 44 musicians between the ages of 9 and 78, the band promises a lively and energetic atmosphere.
The royal carriage with Noriker black horses Camillo and Fanta will be driven by Michael Maier, a renowned carriage driver from Tüßling. The parade will also feature train numbers 52a and 52b as part of the entourage of King Ludwig I and Queen Therese of Bavaria.
Construction works for the parade and the Bavarian State Exhibition have faced some delays, with the original completion date set for the end of August. However, intensive work is currently underway to complete the track construction works around the Max monument, and the works towards Lehel through the Thierschstraße can only be completed after the Oktoberfest.
The parade is not just a historical reenactment, but also a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Oktoberfest. With over 9,000 participants, it promises to be a grand spectacle. The parade will take place on September 21, from 10 to 12 am.
After the conclusion of the Bavarian State Exhibition, preparations for the next event, "Music in Bavaria," will begin. Scheduled to take place from April 25 to November 8, 2026, at the TonYversum in Freyung, it promises to be another exciting event for the city of Munich.
