Actor Jude Law shows no apprehension towards Russian President Vladimir Putin
In an intriguing turn of events, acclaimed actor Jude Law will portray Russian President Vladimir Putin in the upcoming film "The Wizard of the Kremlin." This captivating drama, directed by Olivier Assayas, is based on a novel and is set to premiere at the prestigious Venice Film Festival, where it is competing for the Golden Lion.
To create an uncanny resemblance between himself and Putin, Law relied on a good wig and a dedicated preparation process. In an interview, he revealed that he didn't express any fear about Putin's reaction to the film, instead, he had faith in the director and script.
As part of his preparation, Law learned Judo, a martial art Putin is known to be an enthusiast of. However, there is no information available about him learning Judo specifically for this role. The filmmakers also used references from Putin's life during the filming process.
"The Wizard of the Kremlin" tells the story of Putin's rise to the Russian presidency from the perspective of a young advisor, a fictional character based on the Russian politician Vladislav Surkov. The film offers a unique insight into Putin's political journey, yet Jude Law points out that the public image of Putin, as seen in films, reveals very little.
Throughout his preparation for the role, Law became obsessed with understanding Putin, watching a lot of film material to get a sense of the man behind the public figure. Despite the intense preparation, Law and the filmmakers aimed to avoid creating an imitation of Putin, instead focusing on delivering a compelling and authentic portrayal of the enigmatic leader.
As the Venice Film Festival approaches, cinema enthusiasts eagerly await the premiere of "The Wizard of the Kremlin," a film that promises to offer a captivating exploration of one of the world's most intriguing political figures.
