Actor May Calamawy is now part of the main cast for the upcoming Netflix series titled 'Extraction'

In an exciting turn of events, Egyptian-Palestinian actress May Calamawy has joined the cast of Netflix's action-packed series "Extraction." Known for her roles in US Netflix series "Ramy" and "Moon Knight" (2022), Calamawy will play Priscilla Ragab, an "intelligent and empathetic executive" in the series.

The series, set in the world of the 2020 action thriller movie franchise starring Chris Hemsworth, is based on the graphic novel "Ciudad" by Ande Parks. The eight-episode first season of "Extraction" follows a mercenary (Omar Sy) who attempts to rescue hostages in Libya.

This latest addition to the "Extraction" cast comes from showrunner, writer, and executive producer Glen Mazzara, who is responsible for the hit comedy series "XO, Kitty," which was recently renewed for a third season. The show is a spin-off of the "To All the Boys I've Loved Before" film trilogy.

Meanwhile, Calamawy has made headlines due to her scenes being cut from Ridley Scott's "Gladiator II." Her casting in the film was first announced in May 2023, but in late 2024, fans took to social media to complain about her reduced role in the final cut. Calamawy was only seen in passing and had no dialogue in the final version of the film. Deadline reported that Scott cast Calamawy after a lengthy search.

In addition to her role in "Extraction," Calamawy will also be seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as she plays dual characters Layla El-Faouly and the Scarlet Scarab in "Moon Knight." Ed Speleers will play Alford Griff, an engineer, and Waleed Zuaiter will portray Hamza Najjar, a former soldier with a desire for justice, in the series.

Netflix has a history of extending successful original movie franchises into TV series, making "Extraction" an exciting addition to their lineup. Fans can look forward to Calamawy's performance when the series premieres on Netflix.
