Actress Elizabeth Banks to portray character Karen Read in upcoming limited television series
In an exciting development, actress Elizabeth Banks is set to star in a new limited series drama about the trial of Karen Read. The series, produced by Prime Video and Warner Bros. Television, is scheduled to air around 2025 (exact airing dates not specified).
The series is based on the Law & Crime and Wondery podcast, Karen, which delves into the intriguing story of Read's trial. The series will explore how Read became a household name after the death of her boyfriend, John O'Keefe, a Boston police officer, in 2022.
According to an autopsy, O'Keefe died of blunt force injuries and hypothermia. Read was initially charged with second-degree murder, but following a series of trials, she was acquitted of murder charges. She was, however, found guilty of operating under the influence.
Banks will portray Read in the upcoming series, marking her first time portraying a real person onscreen. The actress, who recently appeared in another hit Prime Video series, 'The Better Sister', is set to bring a compelling performance to the role.
Justin Noble will serve as showrunner and executive producer, alongside David E. Kelley. Noble is known for his work on shows like 'The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story' and 'The Jinx'.
The series will delve into the trial of Karen Read, providing a detailed account of the events that unfolded in the courtroom. In a statement, Read expressed her gratitude to her supporters, saying, "I would not be standing here without these amazing supporters who have supported me and my team financially and more importantly, emotionally."
The series will also explore the circumstances leading up to O'Keefe's death. Reports suggest that Read was accused of drunkenly backing into O'Keefe with her vehicle during a winter storm. However, the series is expected to provide a more comprehensive and nuanced portrayal of the events.
As development on the series continues, fans of Banks and true crime dramas are eagerly anticipating the release of this new series. With its talented cast and crew, it promises to be a gripping and thought-provoking exploration of a high-profile trial.
