Administrative authorities may deliberate over organizing a central drone display or fireworks spectacle for New Year's Eve in Düsseldorf.
In a meeting held on February 6, the Düsseldorf City Council discussed potential plans for New Year's Eve celebrations. The focus lies on the possibility of organising a central drone or fireworks display in the old town of Düsseldorf.
The proposal for this show was initially submitted by the groups "Düsseldorfer Jonges" and "Rheinische Feuerwerker e.V.". The potential organisers will engage in discussions with multiple parties, including the police, fire department, air traffic control, the old town community, showmen, and D.LIVE.
The aim is to find sponsors for this central show, with the hope that it could attract a diverse audience to the old town, similar to the fireworks at the Japan Day. However, the administration is also suggested to prepare for an expansion of the firecracker ban in the old town area, given the incidents that occurred during the previous New Year's Eve celebrations.
Last year, despite the fireworks ban, many people found it fun to circumvent the restrictions. At Burgplatz, firecrackers were set off everywhere, and in some cases, rockets were lit by hand. The situation was described as very tense by those present. Hundreds of fireworks were confiscated and destroyed at the event.
Stricter enforcement of the fireworks ban is proposed within the framework of a possible central show. The fireworks ban zone was not noticeable at Burgplatz during the previous celebrations, leading to concerns about safety and crowd control.
It is worth noting that a central drone show was previously discussed in 2021 but was rejected. The CDU and BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN factions have proposed re-examining this possibility for this year's New Year's Eve celebrations.
The police and law enforcement described the New Year's Eve situation in Düsseldorf as relatively calm compared to previous years. However, the city council is taking proactive steps to ensure a safer and more enjoyable celebration for all.
As discussions continue, more details about the potential central drone or fireworks show for New Year's Eve in Düsseldorf will be shared. The city council is hopeful that this event could become a much-anticipated tradition for the city.
