The decline in dairy consumption in the UK over the past 20 years has been approximately 30%. This trend has raised concerns among health professionals, with doctors of the British Association of Applied Dietetics and Nutritional Therapy expressing worry that this decline may harm the health of the population.

Employees of the National Society for the Study of Osteoporosis believe that giving up animal milk may lead to a deficiency of vitamin D, affecting calcium absorption and increasing the risk of osteoporosis. However, a glass of milk is a mucus-forming product and should be avoided during colds to prevent aggravating symptoms.
