Affleck and Davidson to be directed by Liman in 'Killing Satoshi' project
In the world of finance and technology, the identity of Bitcoin's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, remains shrouded in mystery. This enigmatic figure is set to take centre stage in an upcoming thriller film titled "Killing Satoshi," produced by Ryan Kavanaugh, the former Relativity Media chief.
Nakamoto, whose existence has never been confirmed, is currently the 11th richest person in the world, with a staggering net worth of $133 billion. This wealth was amassed through mining around 1 million Bitcoin between 2009 and 2010, a period when the cryptocurrency was still in its infancy.
The film, scheduled to begin filming in October in London, revolves around Satoshi Nakamoto and Bitcoin's disruptive impact on global finance. It delves into a powerful group trying to hide Nakamoto's identity, while depicting him as a figure that some revere as a liberator, and others perceive as a threat to institutional control.
The script for "Killing Satoshi" was penned by Nick Schenk, with Doug Liman set to direct. The film stars Casey Affleck and Pete Davidson, bringing together a talented cast to bring this intriguing story to life.
Besides Production Lens, the film is financed and produced by Proxima and Aperture Media Partners, in addition to Kavanaugh, Lawrence Grey, and Shane Valdez. As for the release date, no new information has been provided as yet.
Interestingly, on June 2, Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas postulated that Satoshi Nakamoto could become the world's second-richest person by the end of 2026, given Bitcoin's recent all-time high of $124,000 on July 14.
As we await the release of "Killing Satoshi," the film promises to shed light on one of the most intriguing figures in the world of technology and finance, and the impact of Bitcoin on global finance. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting production.
