In the vibrant Haight neighborhood of San Francisco, the 730 Stanyan Street affordable housing project is nearing completion, set to welcome residents in 2025. This significant development, a collaboration between the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD), the Chinatown Community Development Center (CCDC), and the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC), promises to provide 160 units of affordable housing for low- to moderate-income families and transitional age youth (TAY) who have experienced homelessness.

The 730 Stanyan Street building is strategically positioned at the entrance to Golden Gate Park and serves as a connecting point between Haight Street and Waller Street. The project offers a variety of apartment sizes, including 35 studios, 43 one-bedroom units, 42 two-bedroom units, and 40 three-bedroom units.

Public amenities at the site include a daycare center, a cafe, a tech training facility for TAYs, a senior center, and various community spaces. A daycare center will occupy 3,750 square feet, while the cafe will take up 2,300 square feet. The public use space in total will span 5,090 square feet.

The design of the 730 Stanyan Street building is the work of the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), in collaboration with executive architect Y.A. Studio. The structural engineering for the project is handled by Mar Structural Design, and the civil engineering is under the supervision of Urban Design Consulting.

To further support the affordable housing initiative, the San Francisco Housing Authority will provide funding for 32 units through project-based vouchers. The joint venturers for the 730 Stanyan project are the CCDC and TNDC.

The 730 Stanyan project is just one of many affordable housing initiatives across the USA. Another such project, the 300 De Haro Street in Potrero Hill, has already broken ground in August 2025 and is expected to deliver over 400 units when completed in 2027.

As the 730 Stanyan Street affordable housing project nears completion, it represents a significant step forward in San Francisco's ongoing efforts to address housing affordability and homelessness. The project is set to bring much-needed affordable housing options, community spaces, and amenities to the Haight neighborhood and the city as a whole.
