In the heart of San Francisco's Haight neighborhood, the highly-anticipated 730 Stanyan Street affordable housing project is nearing completion. This significant development, a joint venture between the Chinatown Community Development Center (CCDC) and Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC), is set to offer 160 units for low- to moderate-income families and transitional age youth who have experienced homelessness.

The project, designed by the renowned Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) in collaboration with executive architect Y.A. Studio, has been a beacon of hope for the community. Construction for the building started ahead of schedule in July 2023, and it is now expected to be completed in August 2025.

The development will offer a variety of apartment sizes, including 35 studios, 43 one bedrooms, 42 two bedrooms, and 40 three bedrooms. Positioned at the entrance to Golden Gate Park, the site connects the historic commercial Haight Street with residential Waller Street.

Beyond housing, the 730 Stanyan Street building will feature a daycare center, public space, a cafe, and various public amenities such as a tech training facility, a TAYs center, and a senior center. Twelve units will be provided for families escaping homelessness, and twenty units will be allocated for young people in transition. Two units will be reserved for on-site supervisors.

In addition to the 730 Stanyan Street project, another affordable housing project, at 300 De Haro Street in Potrero Hill, has broken ground in August 2025. This development will deliver more than 400 affordable rental units when completed in 2027.

Urban Design Consulting serves as the civil engineer, and Mar Structural Design is the structural engineer for the project. The San Francisco Housing Authority will fund 32 units through project-based vouchers. The Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development (MOHCD) is also involved in the project.

The 730 Stanyan Street affordable housing building will stand at 83 feet tall with a total floor area of approximately 193,740 square feet. Of this space, 157,120 square feet will be used for housing, 3,750 square feet for a daycare center, 5,090 square feet for public use, and 2,300 square feet for a cafe.

The 730 Stanyan Street affordable housing project is one of many such initiatives across the USA, demonstrating a growing commitment to expanding housing opportunities and providing stability for vulnerable residents in communities nationwide.
