Affordable New Citroen Holidays Campervan Priced at £56,950, Undercuts Volkswagen California's Cost

The automotive industry is abuzz with excitement as Citroen unveils its latest offering – the Holidays Campervan. This new addition to the market promises to undercut the prices of its rivals, the Ford Transit Custom Nugget and Volkswagen California, making it an attractive option for adventure-seekers.

Order books for the Citroen Holidays Campervan will open later this summer, with the first deliveries due in November. Under the hood, the campervan is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine, good for 177bhp, and paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

While pricing details for the new Volkswagen California Campervan have yet to be released, the Holidays Campervan comes with a price tag of £56,590. The new Volkswagen California Campervan, based on the MQB platform and the Multivan long version, is part of its third generation, set to launch in 2024. Interestingly, the official new California is developed by Volkswagen, unlike the campers built on Volkswagen bases by Custom-Bus.

The Volkswagen California Campervan is designed to cater to the rising demand for staycations and European road trips. It will feature a new PHEV powertrain, making it a sustainable choice for eco-conscious travellers. A sketch of the new VW California Campervan has already been revealed, with the California Concept due in September serving as a preview of the T7 Campervan for 2024.

Meanwhile, the Holidays Campervan boasts a pop-up roof with a bed, a second-row bed, a kitchen area with sink, gas burners, mini fridge, pivoting front seats, retractable table, optional awning, electric sliding doors, and ambient lighting. It also includes a shower area, drinking water and waste water tanks, and wireless phone charging, ensuring a comfortable and convenient camping experience.

Interestingly, the popularity of People Carriers and MPVs, including the Citroen C4 SpaceTourer and Grand C4 SpaceTourer, may be waning. Some car manufacturers, like Peugeot, have transitioned their MPVs into other vehicle categories. In line with this trend, Citroen has renamed the C4 Picasso and Grand Picasso as the C4 SpaceTourer and Grand C4 SpaceTourer, respectively. A new gearbox option is also available for these models.

As the industry continues to evolve, it's clear that Citroen is staying ahead of the curve with the Holidays Campervan. With its competitive pricing, robust features, and eco-friendly powertrain, it's set to be a game-changer in the campervan market. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the launch later this year.
