AI courses incorporated into UAE educational system, ditching traditional examination methods.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has made a significant stride in education by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into its national curriculum, making it one of the first countries worldwide to do so. Starting from kindergarten through Grade 12, the AI curriculum aims to prepare future generations for a technology-driven world and strengthen their skills in advanced digital fields.
In the 2025–2026 academic year, the Ministry of Education in the UAE will implement the new AI curriculum across all public schools nationwide. Over 1,000 trained teachers have been assigned to deliver the program, ensuring that the curriculum is seamlessly embedded into existing timetables within the framework of computing, creative design, and innovation.
The AI curriculum covers all educational levels, with class allocations tailored to each age group. It emphasizes both the conceptual and practical dimensions of AI, including computing, data and algorithms, software applications, ethical awareness, real-world applications, innovation, policy, and community engagement.
The program is designed to enable students to approach AI as an essential tool for both daily life and future careers, with a focus on responsible and effective use, adaptability, and future readiness. AI can analyze student performance and deliver customized content tailored to each learner's needs, promoting personalized learning.
The new AI curriculum will not have written exams. Instead, it will focus on practical projects designed to refine students' ability to apply AI technologies. The subject is included under Group B subjects, which also includes Creative Design, Technology, and Innovation; Visual Arts; Music Education; Entrepreneurship; Physical and Health Education; Academics; a Third Language; and Health Sciences.
A specialized committee has been formed to monitor the implementation of the curriculum, ensuring it aligns with international best practices and fulfills the overarching goal of preparing a generation proficient in AI tools. The introduction of AI in the curriculum marks a strategic milestone that strengthens the UAE's position as a global leader in innovation-driven education and as a hub for a knowledge-based, competitive digital economy (Strategic Importance).
