AI Security Concept Paper: NIST Reveals Control Framework for Securing AI Systems

NIST Launches Slack Channel for AI Security Control Overlays Development

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has taken a significant step towards securing AI systems by launching a Slack channel dedicated to the Control Overlays for AI Project. This initiative aims to facilitate interaction between stakeholders, NIST principal investigators, and other subgroup members.

The Slack channel, titled #NIST-Overlays-Securing-AI, is open to all interested parties. It provides a platform for engagement, updates, facilitated discussions, and real-time feedback on the development of these control overlays. Interested parties can join the channel by following the link provided at https://csrc.nist.gov/projects/cosais.

The Control Overlays for AI Project, led by principal investigators Mark R. Endsley and Christopher Le Dantec, is focused on securing AI systems. The project's concept paper, recently released by NIST, outlines proposed AI use cases for managing cybersecurity risks in AI systems. The use cases address generative AI, predictive AI, single and multi-agent AI systems, and controls for AI developers.

NIST has also proposed an action plan for the development of these control overlays. The Control Overlays for AI Project's Slack channel offers updates, discussions, and real-time feedback opportunities, making it an essential resource for those interested in AI security.

By joining the Slack channel, stakeholders can engage with NIST principal investigators and other subgroup members, providing valuable input and comments that will shape the development of the control overlays. This collaborative approach is expected to lead to more effective and widely applicable security solutions for AI systems.

For more information about the Control Overlays for AI Project, including the Slack space and joining instructions, visit https://csrc.nist.gov/projects/cosais. NIST is eager to receive feedback on the concept paper and proposed action plan, and encourages all interested parties to join the Slack channel and contribute to this important project.
