AICTE Denies Issuing Circular: 75% Attendance Rule for Engineering Remains in Effect

In a recent turn of events, a purported circular from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) regarding the scrapping of the 75% attendance rule for engineering courses has been widely circulated on social media platforms. However, it has been declared fake by the AICTE, and the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) is not responsible for the document.

The alleged circular claims that the AICTE is introducing vocational projects instead of mandatory attendance in engineering courses. It also states that students must complete three mandatory internships and submit a vocational project related to their hobby or subject each semester to receive their degree.

Despite the claims made in the circular, it should be ignored by all concerned. AICTE has uploaded a communication on its website stating that the circular is misleading, mischievous, and should be disregarded. A police complaint has also been lodged with the cybercrime cell of the Delhi Police.

It is essential to note that the AICTE officially abolished the 75% attendance rule for B.E/B.Tech courses in 2018. The attendance rules will not change in the middle of an academic year.

Moreover, there is no public domain employability report conducted by NSSO & AICTE, and the alleged circular stating that 57.43% of engineering graduates are unemployed is unfounded. Rote learning and cramming remain popular with students for clearing examinations, but the authenticity of such claims cannot be ascertained from the fake circular.

The alleged circular was addressed to all directors and principals of AICTE-approved institutions. However, it is important to verify the authenticity of such documents before spreading them, as they can cause confusion and misinformation.

It is advisable for students and institutions to refer to official AICTE communications on their website for accurate information regarding attendance rules, internships, and other academic requirements. By doing so, we can ensure that the education system remains transparent and free from misleading information.
