THW Volunteers Battling Floods in Southern Bavaria

The Technical Relief Organization (THW) in Bavaria is currently deployed to battle floods in southern parts of the region, with over 1300 volunteers from 60 local associations working tirelessly since Friday.

In Swabia, a deployment area has been set up, where THW personnel are tasked with rescuing people from buildings and making roads passable again. The THW logistics center in Obernburg has provided 1300 field beds for this deployment area tonight.

Another deployment area has been established in the district of Augsburg, Swabia, with a focus on sandbag logistics. Tens of thousands of sandbags are being filled, transported, and installed in the district of Pfaffenhofen to prevent flooding and secure the dam.

Specialist groups such as Water Damage/Pumps, equipped with high-performance pumps, are on standby, ready to assist when needed. Special units of the Specialist Group Clearance are on site with excavators, wheel loaders, and Unimogs in Swabia.

The rising water level of the Paar has made flooding imminent in the district of Pfaffenhofen. To combat this, around 400 THW personnel are deployed in the district alone. THW personnel from northern Bavaria are also helping in the south.

The THW is a federal operational organization run by volunteers, with its commitment of around 88,000 volunteers nationwide supporting its work in civil protection. For more information about the THW's work at home and abroad, visit www.jetzt.thw.de.

This information was originally transmitted via news aktuell by the THW Landesverband Bayern. The THW is in demand worldwide for emergencies, providing both bilateral aid and assistance within the EU's civil protection mechanism and for UN organizations. The transport to Swabia was carried out by THW personnel during the night hours.
