Airboat transportation is set up in Yakutsk due to the shutdown of ice crossings
As the ice season approaches in Yakutia, the Ministry of Transport has announced changes to the passenger transportation system along the critical route from Magan Airport to Mannyatakh (Lower Bestakh).
In case of deteriorating hydrological conditions, helicopters from JSC "Polar Airlines" will be deployed along this route. This measure is necessary to ensure the safety and continuity of service during the challenging ice season.
During the ice-free season, passenger transportation is typically organised along the Yakutsk-Lower Bestakh route. This year, 30 "Hivus-10" hovercraft, 8 "Taifun" aerobots, and 3 "Neptun-23" vessels will be put into operation to cater to the demand.
Until the start of navigation, passenger transportation is planned to be organised using water transport, with 48 air-cushioned hovercraft and aerobots involved. This decision is made to ensure the smooth operation of services despite the ice conditions.
However, it's important to note that during intense ice drift, passenger transportation may require a transfer to aerobots for safety reasons.
In the event of changes or updates during the ice-free season, reliable information can be found on the Ministry of Transport of Yakutia's information platforms. The ministry is expected to publish such information in early spring.
Currently, the main ice crossings on the Lena River are closed, except for the crossing in the direction of Khatasy - Pavlovsk. The Ministry advises travellers to plan their trips only when necessary during the ice-free season.
The bases for air-cushioned vessels are located in the territory of the 204th microdistrict (station "Namyv") in Yakutsk, and in Lower Bestakh - the waiting point of JSC "Yakutia Airlines."
Movement of all types of automotive transport is prohibited on the closed ice crossings. This is a standard precaution to ensure safety during the ice season.
In summary, the Ministry of Transport of Yakutia is making necessary arrangements to ensure the continuous operation of passenger transportation services during the ice season. Travellers are advised to stay updated on the latest information and plan their trips carefully.
