Aircraft pilot veers off the landing pathway during landing operation

On Thursday evening, the Turkish airline Mavi Gökyüçesi experienced an incident at Münster Osnabrück Airport in Greven, North Rhine-Westphalia. The airline's Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which was scheduled to land at the airport, overran the runway slightly due to strong gusts of wind and low visibility.

The plane, which landed at the airport around 7:00 PM, nearly slid off the paved surface. Despite the close call, the Boeing was not damaged in the incident. However, some beacons at the airport were damaged during the incident.

Operations at the airport were temporarily suspended following the incident, with four incoming flights being diverted. Passengers on the Mavi Gökyüçesi flight disembarked via passenger stairs and were taken to the terminal by bus.

A spokesperson for the airport attributed the late landing and slight overrun of the runway to adverse weather conditions. The exact cause of the incident, aside from the weather, remains unclear.

In response to the incident, the Mavi Gökyüçesi Boeing 737-800 will be taken out of service for a thorough inspection and maintenance by the airline's technical team.

Operations at Münster Osnabrück Airport resumed shortly before 3:00 AM following the incident. The airport has not yet announced any changes to its flight schedule due to the incident.

This is not the first time that adverse weather conditions have caused issues at Münster Osnabrück Airport. In the past, strong winds and low visibility have led to flight delays and cancellations. Passengers are advised to check the status of their flights before travelling to the airport.

The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges that airlines and airports face in ensuring safe and timely operations, especially during periods of inclement weather. Mavi Gökyüçesi and Münster Osnabrück Airport have both assured passengers that they are taking all necessary measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
