Albishorn's Marinagraph: A Nonexistent Regatta Timer Makes Its Debut Into Reality Today
New Timepiece by Swiss Indie Manufacturer Albishorn: The Marinagraph
Albishorn, the Swiss indie watchmaker, has unveiled its latest creation - the Marinagraph. This timepiece, inspired by the 1958 America's Cup, is a blend of skin diver and regatta timer elements, resulting in a unique and functional design.
The Marinagraph is priced at CHF 3,950 (approximately $4,900) and comes in two colourways: black and white for the ParaiΜba Racing version, and black and red for the Classic Racing version. Each colourway is limited to 99 unnumbered pieces, with production spanning over three years.
The dial layout of the Marinagraph is designed for clarity. The retrograde timer and running indicator are positioned at 3 o'clock, ensuring legibility. The bidirectional aluminum insert on the bezel tracks tidal cycles over 24 hours, with white markers indicating the first 12 hours after high tide and red markers for the subsequent 12 hours.
The Marinagraph is 39mm in diameter but extends to 42.7mm with the bezel. Its 13mm thickness, including the box sapphire crystal, makes it suitable for daily wear.
One of the standout features of the Marinagraph is its 10-minute retrograde countdown function. This feature, positioned at 7 o'clock, stops at zero during the race start and allows the chronograph seconds to continue running independently. This design prevents confusion during critical race starts.
The Marinagraph's tidal tracking feature provides at-a-glance strategic information that could influence course decisions for sailors navigating tidal waters.
The Marinagraph is powered by Albishorn's proprietary Calibre ALB01 A automatic movement, which delivers a power reserve of 64 hours and is COSC certified. The monopusher operation of the Marinagraph is controlled by a signature red aluminum button at 9 o'clock, making it intuitive and easy to use, even with wet hands.
For U.S. customers, it's important to factor in the current 39% Swiss watch tariff when calculating the final costs for the Marinagraph.
The Marinagraph was designed with a concept called "Imaginary Vintage," creating watches that feel like they should have existed decades ago but never did. The Marinagraph, with its vintage aesthetic and practical features, embodies this concept perfectly.
The Marinagraph is now available through Albishorn's website. Whether you're a sailor navigating tidal waters or a watch enthusiast appreciating design and functionality, the Marinagraph is a timepiece worth considering.
