An Afternoon Spent Enjoying the Charms of Helena

In the heart of Landshut, on a sunny Sunday afternoon, the city hosted a special event for its older citizens and their dedicated care staff. The Senior Afternoon, held at the Theaterpavillon, was a celebration of the invaluable work done by caregivers throughout the year, and a heartfelt thank you from Mayor Alexander Putz.

Mayor Putz, who welcomed the visitors at the event, emphasised the importance and value of the caregivers' work in taking care of the elderly. He expressed his heartfelt thanks to the caregivers on behalf of the city, and Edeltraud Nuhn, the deputy chairwoman of the Senior Council, echoed these sentiments in her welcome speech.

Nuhn expressed her gratitude to all those involved in organising the event, and specifically thanked the care staff and volunteers for their contributions. She noted that these individuals work for the seniors, institutions, and welfare associations throughout the year, ensuring the wellbeing and happiness of Landshut's older citizens.

The event featured a performance of the operetta "Die schΓΆne Helena" by Jacques Offenbach. This operetta, with its main topic of love, provides a thoughtful reflection on the mistakes men can make, making it a fitting choice for the occasion.

Approximately 350 seniors, primarily from Landshuter nursing and care homes, attended the event. They were joined by volunteers and other guests, turning the Theaterpavillon into a vibrant and lively venue.

Mayor Putz also took the opportunity to share a lesson from ancient Greek mythology. According to him, the Trojan War began because Paris, Prince of Troy, made the cardinal sin of choosing one of the three goddesses as the most beautiful. If Paris had made a different statement, there would have been no Trojan War, no stories by Homer, and the audience would not be able to enjoy the story of the beautiful Helena today.

Despite the seriousness of this mythological tale, the Senior Afternoon was a joyous and uplifting event, showcasing the city's commitment to its older citizens and the hardworking caregivers who support them.
