Injury of Taylor Ward: Jo Adell criticizes Minute Maid Park after teammate suffers collision into outfield wall

Angels player Jo Adell criticizes Minute Maid Park after teammate Taylor Ward sustains an injury following a collision in the outfield.

In a surprising turn of events during the Los Angeles Angels' 3-0 victory over the Houston Astros at Daikin Park on Sunday afternoon, Taylor Ward, a 31-year-old player for the Angels, was injured while running into the scoreboard on the left field wall. Ward was visibly bloodied and had to be carted off the field with towels held to his face.

Further evaluation is currently being conducted on Ward's injury, but it is known that he required stitches above his eye as a result.

Jo Adell, another Angels player, expressed concern about the metal on the scoreboard at Daikin Park following the game. Adell reiterated his opinion that the metal, which is present around the numbers on the scoreboard, poses a significant injury risk. He went on to state that it's "ridiculous" that a player has to worry about such a hazard while making a play.

Adell further emphasised that there should be no out-of-town metal scoreboard anywhere on the baseball field. He also stated that there should not be metal anywhere on the outfield wall due to the injury risk.

It's a minor miracle that there hasn't been a serious injury at Daikin Park, which opened in 2000, due to the metal scoreboard. The metal surface at face level on the scoreboard is asking for a serious injury, especially considering that collisions with the wall happen in baseball. In contrast, padded walls are common in baseball to prevent such incidents.

The scoreboard at Daikin Park has metal frames around the numbers, unlike most of the outfield wall which is padded. The responsibility for the installation of the unfastened metal frame around the numbers on the outfield wall at Daikin Park remains unclear.

Adell's statement was made to reporters, including the Orange County Register. Despite the incident, the Angels managed to secure a win, marking a bittersweet day for the team.
