"Announcing a commitment to significant impact"
In a bid to address the pressing issue of housing in Germany, Minister Verena Hubertz, the head of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development, and Building, has announced her commitment to significantly speed up the housing construction process. This move has the full backing of the Federal Government.
Hubertz's 100-day plan includes the implementation of the construction accelerator and paragraph 246 of the Building Code. Her goals are clear: build more, build cheaper, and live together better.
The Ministry of Building stands for issues close to life, such as homeland and climate protection, affordable housing, and how people live together. Hubertz has emphasized that housing is a basic need, and her department's budget has grown for two consecutive years, indicating a commitment to affordable housing.
To make housing construction more attractive, Hubertz is promoting serial construction, the E-building type, and reducing bureaucracy. She is also working on a new, comprehensive funding landscape for long-term investment projects, including a potential temporary restoration of the EH55 standard.
Hubertz's long-term goal is to be able to look back on her term in office and say that more and faster housing has been built. To achieve this, she plans to digitize the construction industry and public administrations, aiming to integrate artificial intelligence and digital assistants in the long run.
The first major appearance of Hubertz in the construction industry was as a speaker at the "Day of the Construction Industry 2025." Her ministry brought a real accelerator for housing construction with the Building Turbo. However, the unexpected collapse of the 'traffic light' coalition has caused budget negotiations, leading to pending planning security for Hubertz's ministry.
Despite this challenge, there was a general mood of optimism at the event, with topics mainly in the sign of the recently decided special assets of the Federal Government. Hubertz is in close exchange with KfW to explore possibilities regarding the demands from several associations in the construction industry for a reliable funding framework and a revision of the "EH40 funding."
Hubertz visited Rostock to discuss the digital building permit and met with Mr. Amthor from the Digitalization and State Modernization Ministry. She assumed office as the second Federal Minister of Housing, Urban Development, and Building on May 6, 2025.
As Hubertz works towards her goals, she remains focused on making a difference in the Ministry of Building. Her tenure so far has been marked by a clear vision and a determination to deliver on her promises.
