Annual poker tournament, World Series of Poker, starts tomorrow
Starting Tuesday, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) will commence its 56th annual edition at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas casinos. Over two months, participants and spectators alike can look forward to 100 tournaments, an increase from 95 events in 2023.
One significant change this year is the inclusion criterion for the Casino Employees Event, which has been renamed the Industry Employees event. Previously, the tournament was exclusive to casino employees. However, in 2025, anyone involved in the gaming world can participate, expanding the tournament to include professional players who have a connection to the industry through blogs, vlogs, streams, or other outlets.
Another intriguing adjustment is that the Casino Employees Event will no longer be a freezeout tournament. Players who are eliminated can opt to re-enter the tournament for another $500 entry, a change that will apply to every tournament, except the Main Event.
The first week of the WSOP will feature "tentpole" events and High Roller action. The $1000 No Limit Hold'em Mystery Millions, beginning Tuesday, is one such "tentpole" tournament. It will offer two $1,000,000 bounties, in addition to other prizes, and will have a million-dollar first-place prize for the winner.
Friday will kick off the $25,000 Heads-Up No Limit Hold'em World Championship, a tournament limited to the elite few in the poker world. The winner will receive a significant first-place prize.
The 2025 WSOP will uphold several new rules, including a late start policy, enhanced player banning, prohibition of texting at tables, ban on solving tools, revised button rules, penalties for dodging blinds, restrictions on table talk, and electronic devices banned at the final three tables.
All the action will be streamed through PokerGO for the duration of the WSOP. The poker community eagerly awaits their yearly gathering in Las Vegas to celebrate the game of poker.
