Terra Madre Americas Event Kicks Off Sacramento's Farm to Fork Festival

The Terra Madre Americas event, a celebration of food sustainability and local produce, will take place at the SAFE Credit Union Convention Center in Downtown Sacramento starting September 26. This marks the official kickoff to Sacramento's month-long Farm to Fork Festival celebrations.

The city of Sacramento is hosting the Terra Madre Americas event for the first time, with the first event of the festival focusing on regional winegrowers and their local produce. The event serves as a platform for smaller or lesser-known vineyards in the Sacramento region, which face difficulties selling their grapes due to market competition.

The region boasts more than 200 boutique wineries, and events like the Legends of Wine offer these wineries exposure, networking opportunities, and direct sales chances. Mike Testa, president of Visit Sacramento, stated that the event does not charge wineries to participate, providing an opportunity for consumers to discover new wineries.

One such winery is Turkovich Family Wines in Winters, which stated that the event helps put them on the map. Christine Noonan of Edio Vineyards at Delfino Farms also mentioned that the event is beneficial for them, despite a temporary decrease in alcohol consumption. Noonan noted that it seems to be picking up again.

Susan Feist, owner of Feist Wines, located in a gold rush town, echoed this sentiment. Feist Wines also finds the event beneficial, with Feist stating that it's a great place to showcase the region's wines.

The annual Legends of Wine event took place at the California State Capitol on Thursday night, attracting approximately 600 people. Jessica and her mother attend the event every year and enjoy the local wines, particularly Boeger Barbera.

The Farm to Fork festival will host the annual Tower Bridge Dinner this Sunday, continuing the celebrations of Sacramento's ability to grow food better than anywhere else in the country. Inefficient grape sales are a concern for some, but events like the Terra Madre Americas and the Legends of Wine are working to address this issue by providing a platform for local wineries to thrive.
