Wang Chuqin Set to Kick Off WTT Champions Event in Macau Against Sora Matsushima

China's world No. 2 table tennis player, Wang Chuqin, is gearing up for the WTT Champions event in Macau. After his victory at the US Smash in Las Vegas in July, Wang Chuqin opted out of the WTT Europe Smash last month.

The tournament, which is still taking place in Macau, has seen some changes in the draw. Dimitrij Ovtcharov, originally in the bottom half, had to drop out due to Severe Tropical Storm Tapah causing delays in his flight. In his place, Xue Fei will be participating.

Wang Chuqin, a two-time winner in Macau, is expected to make straightforward progress in the tournament. Liu Guozheng, a former men's team world champion, has commented on Wang Chuqin's progress, stating that he has a deep understanding of the characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses of all 31 players in the tournament. However, Liu Guozheng did not mention any specific strategies or tactics that Wang Chuqin should employ.

On the opening day of the event, Wang Chuqin's first match will be against Sora Matsushima from Japan. Currently ranked 23rd in the men's singles world table tennis rankings, Matsushima will present a formidable challenge. Liu Guozheng believes that Wang Chuqin needs to be prepared and have his mindset ready for this match.

Other Chinese players in the tournament, on the other side of Wang Chuqin's draw, include Lin Shidong, Xiang Peng, Chen Yuanyu, and Huang Youzheng.

As the WTT Champions event continues, all eyes will be on Wang Chuqin as he seeks to defend his title in Macau.
