Antonelli reacts to Markos Stichelei with the statement, "Victory is always the aim"
Kimi Antonelli, the highly-touted rookie driver for Mercedes, is facing a tough first season in Formula One. Despite the challenges, Antonelli remains committed to learning and improving his skills with the support of his team.
Antonelli started his tenure with Mercedes amid high expectations, having been hailed as a once-in-a-generation talent. However, Helmut Marko, Red Bull's motorsport advisor, criticised Mercedes for throwing Antonelli "in the deep end" as a rookie, citing the pressure the young driver faces. Marko's comments may have put additional pressure on Antonelli to perform and win.
Antonelli acknowledges the privilege of driving for Mercedes but also mentions the pressure to perform and deliver results. He admits that his performance, particularly during a specific point in the season, has not been up to par. However, he emphasises that the goal is to win, not to regret being at Mercedes.
The team has provided significant support to Antonelli throughout his tenure, and he is happy to have started with Mercedes, despite facing tough times. Recently, Antonelli and George Russell were involved in a near-collision, but it was not their fault, as the stewards have identified the cause of the incident.
Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso has strongly reacted to Lewis Hamilton's comment about his time at Ferrari being "useless." Despite the controversy, Antonelli remains focused on his own performance and growth.
Antonelli is aware that his performance will be closely scrutinized due to his high-profile status. However, he remains determined to make the most of his opportunity with Mercedes and continue his journey in Formula One.
