Anubis Gaming, an Egyptian esports squad, raises a seed investment of $300,000.
Anubis Gaming Achieves Historic Success in African Esports
In the dynamic world of competitive gaming, one team has been making waves in the Middle East and North Africa: Anubis Gaming. Founded in 2015 by Youssef Mohsen, this Cairo-based esports team has been a trailblazer in the region.
In its inaugural year, Anubis Gaming clinched the national championship for both Counter-Strike and League of Legends, setting a high standard for itself from the outset. Since then, the team has gone on to win more than 20 titles, solidifying its position as a formidable force in the esports scene.
Anubis Gaming has not only excelled in regional tournaments but has also made a name for itself on the international stage. The team has been invited to participate in the Crossfire World League, with a prize of $100,000, and has advanced to the CFS finals, worth over $750,000. Currently, Anubis Gaming holds the title of regional champions in Crossfire and is in the playoffs for the world championship, making it the first team in Africa to reach such a high placement.
Esports teams, much like traditional sports teams, generate revenue through sponsorships, media rights, merchandise, appearances, influencer marketing, and prize money. With its impressive track record, Anubis Gaming has attracted the attention of investors. Recently, the team secured $300,000 in seed funding, bringing their total funding to $450,000.
The regional e-commerce company Fawry supported Anubis Gaming in its latest funding round. The funds will be used to enhance the team's international coaching staff, launch their apparel line, recruit more players, and establish a gaming house and training facility that can accommodate up to 15 players as residents. The facility will be fully equipped, providing the ideal environment for the team to continue its winning streak.
While it is rare for esports teams in the Middle East and North Africa to raise venture capital, Anubis Gaming and Yalla Esports from Dubai are notable exceptions. As the esports industry continues to grow, it's likely that we'll see more teams following in their footsteps, bringing excitement and competition to the regional and international stages.
