"APC Defends Itself Amidst Accusations: Discussing Strategies to Demonstrate Non-Alignment with Terrorism after the Church Attack in Lagos - ADC's Standpoint"
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised concerns about the actions of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), urging the Nigeria Police Force to act independently and not as an extension of the APC.
At a gathering held at a church in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, attended by party leaders including Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the ADC accused the APC of prioritising intimidation over performance. Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC National Publicity Secretary, condemned the attack on the ADC gathering and described it as a "new low" in APC's campaign of intimidation.
The invasion left several people injured, vehicles destroyed, and property seized. The ADC maintains that the Lagos violence is part of a disturbing pattern of harassment against its members across Nigeria. The party recalled earlier incidents, including threats to its leaders in Edo, harassment in Kogi, the shutdown of a private radio station in Niger, disruption of meetings in Kaduna, and attacks on convoys of its leaders in Kebbi.
The ADC also cited a recent ruling by a Canadian court that reportedly declared the APC a terrorist organisation. The party warned that attacks on its leaders and gatherings must stop, and the only way for the APC to salvage its image was to halt violent attacks on the opposition.
Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, before claiming to be the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, was disowned by the party for falsely presenting himself as their spokesperson. There is no verified information indicating he worked for another party in that role prior to claiming it at ADC.
The ADC stressed that the police have a duty to ensure justice is served swiftly and transparently in cases of political violence. The party demanded the arrest and prosecution of those behind the Lagos attack and other cases of political violence.
In response to the ADC's accusations, the APC's actions, including the attack on places of worship, are being compared to those of a terrorist organization by the ADC. Nigerians are watching, and the credibility of institutions is on trial before the world, according to the ADC.
The ADC declared that it will remain undeterred and committed to engaging Nigerians peacefully, constructively, and courageously. The party reiterated that it will continue to advocate for a just and transparent political environment in Nigeria.
