Apple has announced that the long-awaited Siri 2.0 will launch in 2026, following an earlier delay this year. According to reports, the company is considering using Google's AI assistant, Gemini, to power the revamped Siri.

At WWDC 2025, Apple's Craig Federighi expressed big plans for the updated Siri, hinting at a significant overhaul. The potential collaboration with Google is separate from other deals, such as the planned integration of the Gemini assistant on iPhones by the end of this year.

The talks between Apple and Google are exploratory, and no formal decisions have been made yet. However, if the collaboration goes ahead, it could mark a significant step towards ending the Apple vs Google war.

In addition to the potential collaboration with Google, Apple is also evaluating several AI models for 2026. This includes a proprietary large language model developed by a new "Answers, Knowledge, and Information" team. The team aims to create a ChatGPT-like search engine integrated into Siri, Spotlight, and Safari.

Simultaneously, Apple's iOS 26 will integrate OpenAI's ChatGPT-5 model combined with Apple's intelligence technology to enhance Siri's capabilities. Apple is also building its own internal Siri models, with two currently in the running: Linwood and Glenwood.

Apple has yet to make a final decision on what AI models it will use for Siri. However, the company is partnering with existing AI companies to get Apple Intelligence on track.

Meanwhile, Apple's Siri already connects with ChatGPT to answer questions that Apple's voice assistant can't handle. ChatGPT, which uses Google Search to answer questions, is generating unexpected excitement, adding to the anticipation surrounding the updated Siri.

However, not all news is positive for tech giants. Apple TV Plus subscribers are threatening to cancel after a surprise price hike, indicating that even tech giants aren't immune to customer backlash.

The updated Siri, slated for launch in 2026, is expected to revolutionise voice interaction on Apple devices, making them smarter and more capable than ever before. VP Craig Federighi is taking over Siri's development, ensuring that the updated voice assistant will be a priority for Apple in the coming years.

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reports that Apple is in talks with Google to create a custom AI model for the new Siri in 2026. If the collaboration goes ahead, it could signal a new era of cooperation between the two tech giants.
