Apple TV users will bid farewell to the CBS All Access application in the coming month.

The streaming landscape is changing for third-generation Apple TV users, as Google and Paramount+ have announced that their apps will no longer be supported on these devices.

Google confirmed that the YouTube app will disappear from third-generation Apple TVs starting early March. This decision, according to a Google spokesperson, is aimed at ensuring users have the best experience on YouTube. However, it's worth noting that the loss of support for YouTube on the older device is not a significant reason to buy a new one, especially if users don't frequently cast content from their mobile devices.

For those who dislike casting from their mobile device, an alternative to replacing their third-generation Apple TV could be the Chromecast with Google TV. A user who recently made the switch highly recommends it.

Meanwhile, Paramount+, the new name for CBS All Access, will be available on iPhone, iPad, and newer Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD boxes from March 4. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like Paramount+ will be natively supported on the older Apple TV.

CBS All Access will lose support on Apple's older set-top box, as a message displayed to third-generation Apple TV users confirmed. Before the arrival of Paramount+ on iPhone, iPad, and newer Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD, the platform available on third-generation Apple TVs in place of CBS All Access was Paramount+ itself, as CBS All Access was rebranded to Paramount+. However, on older devices, CBS All Access remained until Paramount+ became available on newer Apple TV models.

It's important to note that the third-generation Apple TV will no longer support CBS All Access from the time Paramount+ is launched. This change will occur at the same time that CBS All Access relaunches as Paramount+.

Google has not provided further information about the loss of support for apps on third-generation Apple TVs. Users will still be able to cast Paramount+ content from an iOS device to their third-generation Apple TV or connected AirPlay 2 screen.

In conclusion, while the loss of YouTube and CBS All Access support on third-generation Apple TVs may seem inconvenient, alternatives like Chromecast with Google TV and casting from iOS devices provide viable solutions. Users can look forward to the launch of Paramount+ on newer Apple TV models from March 4.
