Apple's Intelligence feature now accessible on iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices
Apple has announced the launch of Apple Intelligence, a groundbreaking new software feature designed to enhance user experiences across its devices. The first set of Apple Intelligence features will be available as a free software update starting with iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1.
Beginning in December, Apple Intelligence will be available in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K., with more language support coming throughout the year. The feature will initially support English locally in these regions, with German language support in Germany being a part of the initial release.
One of the key features of Apple Intelligence is the introduction of a new visual intelligence experience. This will allow users to gain instant information about objects and places using Camera Control, available on iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max. Users will also have the option to access ChatGPT's broad world knowledge within Writing Tools and Siri.
Apple Intelligence is designed with privacy in mind. It uses on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute to extend privacy and security into the cloud. Users can choose whether or not to enable the ChatGPT integration, which is available as part of using Siri, Writing Tools, or visual intelligence with Camera Control.
In addition to visual intelligence, Apple Intelligence includes Systemwide Writing Tools, a more natural and conversational Siri, a more intelligent Photos App, new ways to prioritise and stay focused, and many more features to come.
Siri will gain onscreen awareness and be able to take hundreds of new actions in and across Apple and third-party apps. Writing Tools will become more powerful, allowing users to describe specific changes they want to apply to their text.
In the months to come, Priority Notifications will surface what's most important, and Siri will become even more capable. Users can also look forward to creating a Memory Movie on iPhone, iPad, and soon on Mac.
Apple Intelligence supports multiple languages officially starting with macOS 15.4, iPadOS 18.4, and iOS 18.4, which was released in 2025. For those who choose to connect their account, OpenAI's data-use policies apply. Users can access ChatGPT for free without creating an account, and privacy protections are built in - their IP addresses are obscured and OpenAI won't store requests.
Apple Intelligence is available on iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad with A17 Pro or M1 and later, and Mac with M1 and later. The company emphasises its commitment to protecting user privacy and promises a continuous effort to expand the features and capabilities of Apple Intelligence in the future.
