Appleton Estate unveils its most aged rum yet in the market
Appleton Estate Launches Rare 51-Year-Old Rum and a Unique Aperitif-Style Cocktail
In a groundbreaking move, Jamaica's oldest rum distillery, Appleton Estate, has launched a new expression - The Source 51-Year-Old. This exceptional rum is presented in a limited edition of 25 heart-shaped decanters, each adorned with a copper doctor bird on the neck ring.
The aging process of The Source 51-Year-Old was overseen by Dr Joy Spence, the first-ever female Master Blender, who ensured the rum matured to perfection in a single American oak cask. The result is a mahogany-colored spirit with aromas of honeyed raisins, vanilla, cinnamon, maple, and smoky orange.
On the palate, The Source 51-Year-Old offers powerful citrus notes, spicy raisins, ripe figs, dark chocolate, an oaky, spiced finish, and hints of ginger. With such a rich and complex flavour profile, it's no surprise that this rum is a true masterpiece.
Meanwhile, London-based mixologist Michael Sager, owner of Equal Parts and Sager + Wilde, has created a unique aperitif-style cocktail called Trouble in Mind. This cocktail is a perfect match for The Source 51-Year-Old, with flavors of peach, pear, rose, lychee, pink grapefruit, and a mildly bitter marmalade character.
The method for preparing Trouble in Mind is simple: stir all of the ingredients down over ice, strain into a coupette glass, and garnish with a green olive. The ingredients for Trouble in Mind are 25ml Meinklang Weisser Mulatschak orange wine, 25ml Kina L'Aéro d'Or, 25ml apple brandy, and 2 dashes of saline solution.
Trouble in Mind is a unique cocktail, as it does not work with any other orange wine. This makes it a truly special drink, one that is sure to impress any rum and cocktail enthusiast.
The Source 51-Year-Old and Trouble in Mind are now available at Vintage Roots, Amathus Drinks, and The Whisky Exchange. With only three decanters of The Source 51-Year-Old available in the UK for £59,320, these rare and exquisite drinks are not to be missed.
