Aprilia's defeat in MotoGP: Penalties imposed on Fermin Aldeguer and Franco Morbidelli

In the aftermath of the Sprint race in Barcelona, the MotoGP Stewards, led by Simon Crafar, announced penalties for two riders following incidents that occurred during the race.

Franco Morbidelli and Fermin Aldeguer were found to be the cause of crashes that affected their fellow riders. Morbidelli put Jorge Martin into the gravel in lap seven, while Aldeguer sent Marco Bezzecchi crashing out a lap later.

Both riders have been handed long lap penalties in the next Grand Prix they participate in, likely the Catalan GP on Sunday. Morbidelli admitted fault for the crash with Martin and expressed remorse, while Aldeguer took full responsibility for the crash and publicly apologized to Bezzecchi.

Jorge Martin accepted Aldeguer's apology without reproach. Bezzecchi, however, suffered minor injuries, including bruises on his left arm and hip, as a result of the crash.

The stewards began their investigation only after the Sprint race ended to hear from all riders before making a decision. The outcome of the investigation was clear from the start: neither of the Aprilia factory riders was at fault in the incidents.

The article does not mention any similar incidents involving Alex Marquez in the past. Marquez, however, had a separate incident on Saturday, crashing out unrelated to any penalties for Morbidelli and Aldeguer. The outcome of Marquez's analysis is currently unknown.

It's worth noting that Aldeguer had a similar incident earlier this year in Termas de Rio Hondo, and Morbidelli had a similar incident in Mugello. Fermin Aldeguer also crashed out of the Moto2 race in Barcelona last year while taking a long lap.

The search results do not provide information about the two riders participating in a long lap penalty at the next Grand Prix, presumably the 2025 Catalonia GP on Sunday. The focus remains on the penalties handed out to Morbidelli and Aldeguer and the impact these incidents have had on their fellow riders.
