Armed robbery conviction for a Des Plaines resident, as kidnapping charges against him are dismissed in Bridgeport.

In a court hearing last week, Raymond Marshall, 34, of Chicago, was sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) for an aggravated robbery that took place in October 2023.

The crime occurred in the 3600 block of South Morgan Street, where three masked suspects approached a 35-year-old victim while he was unloading items from his garage. One of the suspects impersonated a police officer, aiming a gun at the victim's head. The suspects then beat the victim, put restraints on him, and tried to force him into a vehicle. The victim was also tased during the incident.

The suspects, however, left the scene without the victim before any law enforcement arrived. No video evidence was available from the incident, and no information was found about who committed the crime or about any subsequent attempted kidnapping or aggravated robbery charges related to this incident.

Raymond Marshall was originally charged with armed robbery and one count of attempted kidnapping, but the attempted kidnapping charge was dropped nearly two years after the crime. Marshall pleaded guilty to the aggravated robbery charge.

Marshall will be given credit for the nearly two years he already served. The court hearing did not provide any further details about the case or the motivations behind the crime. The incident remains under investigation by the Chicago Police Department.
