In the wilderness of Victoria's high country, a manhunt for Dezi Freeman, a 56-year-old self-proclaimed sovereign citizen, has been ongoing for six days. Freeman is accused of killing Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson, 59, and Senior Constable Vadim De Waart during a warrant at his property.

More than 400 police officers from Victoria and interstate are involved in the search, which has taken them through the dense forests and mountainous terrain surrounding the small alpine town of Porepunkah. This town, located about 300 kilometers northeast of Melbourne, is known for its caves and abandoned mines that could potentially serve as hiding places.

A 61-year-old man was arrested and charged with possessing an imitation firearm and a drug of dependence at Bright, just outside Porepunkah. Police are investigating whether this man was associated with Freeman.

Meanwhile, Freeman's wife, Amalia Freeman, has pleaded for him to surrender and end the ordeal. She has urged anyone harboring or helping her husband, or anyone with a snippet of information, to contact the police. Amalia and their 15-year-old son were arrested at a Porepunkah home last week and were later released without charge.

The man who was arrested claimed he had never met Dezi Freeman, but stated that he saw police officers with their hands on their triggers, causing him to fear for his life. He said he raised his hands in surrender, waiting for the bullets to come, when he was confronted by armed police at his home.

The man is a member of an online group that Dezi Freeman was also a part of, which is dedicated to sustainability and largely focused on hunting.

Amalia Freeman has offered her condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the officers killed. She expressed her sorrow for the loss and asked for prayers for the families during this difficult time.

The search for Dezi Freeman continues, with the police appealing for any information that could lead to his capture. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
