Arrest made in Kazakhstan of Organized Crime Group members charged with selling weapons in bulk via the DarkNet
Kazakhstan's Committee for National Security Dismantles Illegal Arms Trafficking Group
The Committee for National Security (KNB) of the Republic of Kazakhstan has successfully dismantled a criminal group specializing in illegal arms trafficking. In a coordinated operation, simultaneous raids were conducted in Astana, Almaty, and several other regions.
During the operation, law enforcement agencies detained 23 individuals suspected of involvement in the weapons trafficking scheme. Seven underground workshops with special equipment and components for producing weapons and ammunition were shut down. Among the seized weapons, there were 32 assault rifles, 88 pistols, 37 rifles, nine grenades, and an astonishing 27,390 rounds of various calibers.
Prior to the detention, the KNB purchased an AK-47, three pistols converted to fire live ammunition, and ammunition of various calibers as part of a long-term investigation. The methods of weapons distribution, including through darknet trading platforms, have been established.
A pre-trial investigation is underway to identify other individuals involved in the illegal trafficking and acquisition of weapons. The KNB continues its work to uncover the network behind this criminal enterprise.
Regrettably, there is no available information about the name of the leading person or head of the discovered illegal arms trafficking group in Kazakhstan. The group members maintained strict measures of secrecy and security, with defined roles (manufacturers, sellers, intermediaries).
As the investigation continues, the public is reminded of the importance of reporting any suspicious activities related to illegal arms trafficking to the authorities. Together, we can help ensure the safety and security of our communities.
