Arrest Made in Old Town Dusseldorf for Theft by Pickpocketing
A 48-year-old pickpocket was apprehended on the night of February 8th, at 00:55, in the Mother-Ey Square, marking the culmination of a series of events following the recovery of stolen items.
The arrest was not a random occurrence but a result of ongoing investigations. The police had been searching for the suspect, who has a history of similar offenses such as robbery, threats, and theft since 2011, and currently has no fixed residence.
The pickpocket's apprehension was preceded by a warrant for his arrest, issued by a judge. A patrol team spotted a matching suspect at the Mother-Ey Square, and upon noticing the officers' attention, the pickpocket attempted to dispose of incriminating evidence.
The arrest was facilitated by a detailed witness description, which was broadcasted to all officers on duty in the old town. A woman had reported her stolen mobile phone to the police, providing a precise description of the suspect.
Upon the suspect's apprehension, three more people reported their phones stolen, and among the recovered items were three mobile phones and a high-quality leather case. All recovered phones were identified and returned to their owners.
The 48-year-old detainee was known to police prior to the apprehension. In fact, this was not the first interaction with law enforcement for him. The detainee, who has no fixed address, has a history of similar offenses.
Investigations regarding the detainee's activities continue, and it is hoped that this arrest will mark a significant step in reducing pickpocketing incidents in the old town.
