Arrest of suspected thieves at Ebertplatz facilitated by security camera footage
In the early hours of Saturday, 16th August, two suspects of Algerian origin were arrested by police officers in Cologne following an alleged attack and theft incident at Ebertplatz.
The incident occurred around 1:10 AM on Friday, 15th August. A 26-year-old man, who was heavily intoxicated at the time, got into an argument with the two suspects, aged 23 and 30. The suspects are accused of attacking the man, kicking and punching him, and tearing a chain from his neck.
The stolen chain, which was torn from the man's neck, was found hidden near a wooden roundabout. Officers also discovered other parts of the stolen goods in the same vicinity.
The patrol team was directed to the suspects by the video control centre. The suspects were found hiding in the underpass near Neusser Straße. A police dog was used to locate them.
The suspects will be brought before a judge today. The prosecutor who will bring the two suspects to court on Friday is the public prosecutor (Staatsanwältin), as indicated in the case before the Heilbronn regional court, where the prosecutor requested penalties and confiscation of stolen goods.
The case will be heard at the Heilbronn regional court, with the exact date yet to be confirmed. The public is reminded to avoid speculation and await the outcome of the court proceedings.
