Arrested parents suspected of infant homicide in California: vanished baby case
In the desert community of Cabazon, California, the parents of a 7-month-old boy named Emmanuel found themselves in the centre of a murder investigation last week. Jake Haro, the boy's father, and Rebecca Haro, the mother, were taken into custody by authorities and are currently being held without bail in a jail in Riverside County.
The arrests followed a plea made by Jake Haro on KTLA last week, in which he expressed his deepest concern and desire for the return of his son. He said, "Whoever took my son, please return him, we just want him back." The mother had reported Emmanuel's kidnapping the same week.
Authorities believe that Emmanuel may be deceased, and the search for his remains is ongoing. The district attorney's office in Riverside County is reviewing the case, and the sheriff's authorities are investigating the matter.
Vincent Hughes, a defence attorney who represents Jake Haro in another case, did not immediately return a message. There is no information available about the defender of Jake Haro in that case. It was not immediately known if Rebecca Haro had a lawyer.
However, Vincent Hughes did make a statement regarding the case, expressing his belief that the parents are not responsible for Emmanuel going missing. He also stated that he does not believe a kidnapping in Yucaipa, another California town, occurred.
Jake Haro hired a lawyer after authorities searched the family's home. The search did not lead to any immediate findings, and the case remains open and under investigation. The community is hopeful for the safe return of Emmanuel and is urging anyone with information to come forward.
